Precepts of the Church
Solemnities and Precepts 2026
The Catholic Church guides the faithful to live the faith in an authentic way, participating in the sacraments and following its teachings. Among these practices, there are the Days of Obligation, which are sacred celebrations in which Catholics have the obligation to participate in Holy Mass and abstain from unnecessary work, as it happens on Sundays.
What are the Days of Precept?
The Days of Obligation are solemn dates that mark important events in the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the saints. On these days, Catholics should attend Mass and, whenever possible, avoid activities that may distract them from the spirit of celebration and reflection.
How to live the Days of Obligation?
To honor these days as directed by the Church, the faithful must:
- Participate in Holy Mass in a spirit of prayer and devotion.
- Avoid unnecessary work, dedicating time to prayer and family.
- Reflect on the meaning of the celebration and seek to deepen your faith.
